GDC – The Name Synonymous with Quality & Efficiency

Gulf Dredging & Gen. Contracting Co. (GDC) was formed in 1975 as a joint shareholding company of the Government of Kuwait and Ballast Nedam of Netherlands, to cater to the growing requirements of dredging in and around Kuwait. Starting off the business solely in dredging, with a fleet of cutter suction dredgers, backhoe dredger and allied equipment, the company concentrated in the capital dredging projects in Kuwait. Later, in 1980 the company diversified into other areas of Marine construction. After the privatization programme of the Government of the Kuwait, GDC is now wholly owned by the Heavy Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. (HEISCO). The workshop and head quarters of GDC are situated inside the Shuwaikh Port (Gate # 07), thereby having complete access to and usage of the vast resources of KSRC fabrication yard and the Quality Control Laboratory which have been accredited with ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 Certificates. In the year 1999, two full fledged separate Divisions have been established - Civil Construction Division to carry out Construction of Showrooms, Schools/Office Buildings, Complexes etc. and Industrial Construction Division to service the Petroleum Sector in Pipeline & Tank Foundation. Structural Fabrications, Electrical Mechanical Works etc… Apart from dredging an accumulated total volume of 23 million cu. m to its credit in Kuwait, other major projects carried out were the complete asphalt road and civil foundation works and structural steel fabrication works in Az Zour South Power Station, Dredging & Reclamation as well as Rock works including Revetment works and Marine Breakwater in Amiri Diwan Project, complete marine construction works including the sea water intake structure with sheet pile cellular walls, precast concrete barrier posts and cast-in-situ foundation concrete works and asphalt road works in Sabiya Power Station Project, Water Front Development Projects at Salmiya & Fahaheel, Mazda-Peugeot Showroom Complexes, etc. GDC has been in the forefront in complete installation of Marines including floating pontoons, gangway structures and Electro Mechanical works involved in provision of the utility services such as fire protection system, drinking water pipelines, fuel pipelines and electrical cabling and tower light installation works. .
